There are many people who make the mistake of thinking that they can simply wear a holster with their gun in it whenever they want. That is not always the case, though. The guide below walks you through a few things that you need to know about concealing and carrying a firearm. You Need a Permit to Conceal a Firearm There are some states that have laws in place that allow you to carry a firearm without a permit if you carry it in a manner where it can be easily seen. It cannot be concealed in any way. This is called open carrying a weapon. If you want to conceal and carry the weapon, you need to get a conceal and carry permit. You will have to pass a concealed carry lessons test to be approved for the permit. There are classes that you can take to learn the laws about carrying a firearm so that you can know the information that you need to know to pass the test. Choose the Holster that Is Right for You If you already know what weapon you want to conceal and carry, you need to choose the right holster to support your needs. There are shoulder holsters that wrap around your shoulder and allow the gun to hang just below your armpit. Waist holsters hook onto the waist of your pants and allow you to carry the gun near your belly button, on your hip, or along your back. There are also ankle holsters and bra holsters that allow small firearms to be concealed with ease. You may want to try a few different holsters to ensure that you purchase the right one for you. Practice Pulling the Weapon from the Holster In order to be sure that you can handle the weapon properly when needed, you need to practice pulling it out of the holster. Notes on Purchasing Fireworks

Posted by on 3:47 pm in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on Notes on Purchasing Fireworks

Recognized and loved by children and adults across the country, fireworks are a splendid form of entertainment. Watching fireworks is enough of a celebration for some people, but others may be interested in acquiring and igniting their own fireworks. If you are considering purchasing fireworks, and looking to do a little research, there are several notes to keep in mind.    Types of Fireworks According to FireworksLand, fireworks can be unofficially divided into three categories: ground-level, aerial, and proximate. Ground-level fireworks are those that are positioned on the ground or those that are hand-held. Next, aerial fireworks are the types that are shot into the air; this may what most people have in mind upon hearing the word “fireworks.” Finally, proximate fireworks are special-effect type fireworks including some used at stage shows. Examples of proximate fireworks are Gerbs, set pieces, and Niagara Falls. Here are a few examples of the main types, ground-level and aerial.  Ground-Level Types Sparkler: a handheld firework resembling a stick, it sparkles while it burns.  Flare: another handheld firework, this one gives off a colorful flame. They can be different colors like red or blue.   Firecrackers: these look almost like paper sticks of dynamite, and when lit, they create small explosions.  Fountain: this kind of firework is placed on the ground, where it shoots out a fountain of colorful sparkles and crackles.  Aerial Types  Skyrocket: the kind that looks like a small rocket and is shot into the sky to produce its effect.  Cake: a firework that gives off repeating shots up into the air. Multiple shots are wrapped in one package with one fuse. Sometimes the packages are shaped like cakes.  Roman Candle: even though there is only one tube, it has several shots that go one after the other. They shoot up and create a burning tower of flame and color.  Legality of Fireworks Next, you should be aware of any legal issues with fireworks. As might be expected, fireworks pose some safety issues such as possible fires and injuries. For this reason, states make the rules on which types of fireworks can be used and by whom. Legality issues vary by individual state, and there may be additional laws or restrictions put in place by your city or county. Depending on the state, many kinds of fireworks will only be available with a special permit. In Virginia, for example, firecrackers and all aerial firework types are only allowed with a permit (according to US Fireworks). Be sure to look up the fireworks laws in your state. Where to Buy Fireworks Finally, you will need to know if fireworks are widely available and where to start your search. Fortunately, fireworks are fairly easy to find. There are many stores specializing in fireworks, and some non-specialized stores may sell a more limited selection. A supermarket might sell sparklers, for example, but they might not sell aerial items. Plenty of stores allow you to buy online as well. Excepting the specialty stores, most places carry fireworks during the July Fourth season. Availability is also somewhat dependent on your state. Fewer stores will sell firework types that require a permit by State law.  Knowing about the types, legal issues, and availability of fireworks will help you in the task of purchasing these exciting pyrotechnic...

Tips For Preparing Your RV For Storage

Posted by on 10:15 am in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on Tips For Preparing Your RV For Storage

Your RV can be one of the most important and valuable possessions that you have. However, you may go long periods of time without needing to use the RV, and during these times, it is essential for you to properly prepare the RV for storage. To avoid making potentially serious mistakes during this process, you should always use these three storage preparation tips. Steam Clean The Interior Of The RV The interior of your RV can accumulate a large amount of dust, crumbs, and other organic debris. These materials will gradually start to decompose, which can cause the interior of the RV to develop a foul smell. Over long periods of time, this smell can seep into the fabrics of the RV, which can make it extremely difficult to remove. Avoiding this problem will entail using a steam cleaner on any of the upholstery and carpeting in the RV. After you have steam cleaned the interior, you should leave the windows cracked so that the moisture can evaporate. Treat The RV For Pests Insects and rodents can be a major problem for stored RVs. These pests are often attracted to these vehicles because they can be an excellent source of shelter, and there may be food present. In addition to making the interior of the RV unsanitary, these pests can also cause considerable damage to the vehicle. Due to these potential complications, you should arrange for the RV to be professionally treated for pests before it is stored. Additionally, you may want to arrange for it to be treated every couple of months if the unit will be stored for a prolonged period of time. Protect The Tires It can be easy to overlook the wear and tear that can occur to the tires of your RV. While it may seem strange that the tires could suffer damage when the RV is not being driven, exposure to the elements can weaken the rubber in the tires. In particular, it is possible for the ultraviolet rays of light to make the tires brittle. Luckily, there are tire treatments that can be applied which block these rays of light. In addition to protecting the tires against damage from ultraviolet light, you also need to avoid leaving the tires over or under inflated. During the year, the temperatures can vary from one extreme to the other, and this can cause the air in the tires to expand or contract substantially. If the tires are not properly inflated, this could cause them to rupture. For this reason, you should always make sure that your tires are within the manufacturer’s recommended levels before you store the RV.  For more tips, contact a company like Drydock Depot RV Boat...

Whitewater Rafting For An Exciting And Unique Vacation

Posted by on 8:41 am in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on Whitewater Rafting For An Exciting And Unique Vacation

Are you tired of always taking the same boring vacation? Do you want to do something more interesting, but you’re not quite sure what you want to do? There are many interesting things that you can see and do while you’re on vacation, but it’s not always easy to pick one. But if you want something exciting and different for your next summer vacation, you might want to consider a whitewater rafting trip. Some of the interesting places you could see while on such a trip include: Gauley River – West Virginia: Whether you’re new to the sport or you’ve taken a few trips on whitewater rafts in the past, the Gauley River area has sections for just about everyone. The New River portion has sections of easy whitewater rapids combined with places to do other activities such as horseback riding or fishing. Downstream, the actual Gauley River has rapids to challenge and excite even the most experienced of rafters. If this sounds like something that you want to do, schedule your vacation some time after Labor Day, which is when “Gauley Season” begins. American River – California: If you’re like many people, the Colorado River is probably the first place that you think about when considering taking whitewater rafts down a river in the western US. However, the American River is another fine choice. Like other rivers, there are sedate stretches where you can go tubing or do regular boating. The river itself consists of 3 parts, or forks, each of which has rapids for a different skill level. If you want to start off with something easy, head to the South Fork where there are class II and class III rapids to be run. Deschutes River – Oregon: The Deschutes River has about 100 miles of its length that are suitable for whitewater rafts. If you want to be able to be out on the river for several days, the Deschutes River may be just what you’re looking for. If your family doesn’t want to go whitewater rafting with you, they can enjoy the beautiful campgrounds and other various activities on and around the river while you head off on your exciting river adventure. Unlike some other recreational sites, the Deschutes River can be utilized throughout the entire year. However, the rapids themselves may be more exciting during certain parts of the year; you may wish to contact park officials for more information. For more information, contact local professionals like Andy and...

Three Options To Consider If You Want To Take Up Camping As A Hobby

Posted by on 12:49 pm in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on Three Options To Consider If You Want To Take Up Camping As A Hobby

If you want to be able to enjoy nature more often, you may want to consider taking up camping as a hobby. Camping allows you to get up close and personal with the sights and sounds in nature any time you choose. Use the guide that follows to learn about the three most common options available when you go camping.  Tents Are Ideal for Singles and Couples Sleeping in a tent when camping is an ideal option for couples. Setting up a tent takes some time and preparation, but small tents aren’t hard to handle. You will also need to clear the area where you plan to set up the tent to ensure that there are not pine cones or rocks under it. You then need to take the time to set it up and then put the air mattress or sleeping bags in it. This can be a daunting task for someone to do when they have children to look after as well. Pop-Up Campers Are Ideal for Couples and Small Children Pop-up campers are campers that can be pulled behind a truck or SUV easily. When you arrive at your camping destination, the lid to the camper can be raised to create two sleeping areas for your family to enjoy. When your children get older, they may not want to sleep in such tight quarters together, which could start a few fights over time. RV Campers Are Ideal for Families If you are looking for a home on wheels, an RV is more than likely the best option for your family. These provide your family with numerous sleeping options so that everyone can fit comfortably when sleeping. There are some RVs that have full kitchens and bathrooms built into them so that everyone can use the restroom and prepare food with ease. RV campers can also be hooked up to electricity to allow for air conditioning, lights and even televisions to be used inside of them when everyone wants to relax. You can contact a business like Pettibone Resort On The River to learn more about RV features. Take the time to consider all three options before investing in one particular option. You need to consider the places where you want to camp to ensure that the choice you make can easily get to the areas where you plan to camp. Also, you need to be sure to consider the price for the options that may be the best one for you. An RV can be an expensive investment, but if you think about how long an RV can last and how much fun you can have in it, it may be well worth the investment to your...

The Gear That All Fishermen Should Have In Their Boat

Posted by on 11:40 am in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on The Gear That All Fishermen Should Have In Their Boat

Fishing is a pretty expensive sport. It isn’t simply one rod/reel and a handful of baits. Once you really get into the sport, you’ll notice yourself buying a new rod/reel for every type of fishing, casting and bait you use (e.g. dock fishing with a worm for bass). There are quite a few other items the avid fisherman should have in their boat to have on hand when needed. To get your supply started, see below for the gear you need. Rain Suit There’s nothing worse than trying to catch your limit for the day in the rain – unless you’re trying to do it in the rain without a rain suit. Invest in a good rain suit that will hold up to the weather. Don’t look for a cheap poncho, as that isn’t going to cut it. Look for a lightweight rain jacket and pants to go with it or a jacket with overalls. These will not only keep you dry, as they’ll also keep you warm while still being a little breathable.  Life Jackets You can invest in a professional style life jacket (the one where you pull a tab to inflate it), or you can invest in a mid-grade life jacket that fits you well and isn’t too heavy. Be sure to have more than one on your boat, just in case you have someone with you fishing for the day. Rod Covers To help protect those expensive rods, look for rod covers to help protect the tips of your rods and cover the line/hooks from getting snagged on your other rod/reels.  Tackle Boxes When you begin purchasing different types of tackle, you’ll start to get a little overwhelmed, so be sure to stay organized with your tackle by investing in tackle boxes for each type of bait. You can put worms, jigs, hooks and weights in their own compartments. Label everything so you can find things easily and quickly on your boat in case you need to re-bait or re-line while fishing. Scissors/Pliers Lines and hooks can get caught up in just about anything. To help get your hooks or line out easily, be sure to bring a good pair of scissors or needle-nose pliers onto your boat in the event you need them.  Fish Scale/Measuring Board There may be a minimum size for keeping the fish you are fishing for, so you’ll want to be sure you have over that minimum size. Do this by keeping a scale and measuring board on your boat. You may want to have this as well so you can show off the size and weight of your large keeper to your other fishing buddies. Share This Advice To Help The First-Time Mini Golfer In Your Group

Posted by on 3:34 pm in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on Share This Advice To Help The First-Time Mini Golfer In Your Group

Mini golf is an ideal game because virtually anyone can play it, even without having ever previously held a golf putter. If you’re playing with a newbie, whether it’s on a date, during a visit with work colleagues or any other scenario, it’s polite to offer a few words of wisdom to the beginner in the group — especially if he or she appears to find this sport a challenge. Don’t overdo it on the tips, though. The last thing anyone wants is to be lectured during this relaxing pastime. Instead, here are some helpful tips that you can share. Keep Your Feet Parallel Before a mini golfer attempts to take a shot, he or she should look down at his or her feet. A golfer’s feet should be parallel; while it’s often customary to stand with your heels slightly closer together than your toes, this posture isn’t ideal for mini putt. When the feet are parallel, there’s more chance that the golfer in your group will be able to hit the ball in the intended direction. Place The Ball In The Right Spot Another simple piece of advice that you can give is for the golfer to make sure that the ball is in the right spot between his or her feet. When a golfer approaches the ball to make a putt, it should typically sit equally between the front and back foot. This will permit the golfer to make contact with the ball when the putter’s club face is square. If the ball is too far forward or too far back, the contact will not be clean. For example, if the ball is aligned with the back foot, the putter will be on a downward plane as it makes contact with the ball, which will often produce a result that is less than desirable. Keep Your Head Over The Ball While many people take different approaches to playing mini golf, a useful tip to share is to stand so the head is over the ball. This means bending the knees and back enough to lean forward and look straight down at the ball before making contact. In this position, the new mini golfer in your group will have a better time looking at where he or she needs to send the ball and will be more apt to hit the ball on that trajectory. If the head isn’t over the ball, it’s easy to mishit the...

A Few Care Tips For Caring For Your Gun Belt

Posted by on 12:44 pm in Blog, Recreation & Sports | Comments Off on A Few Care Tips For Caring For Your Gun Belt

Your shooting belt can be essential for allowing you to comfortably carry your gun and a limited amount of ammunition. Not surprisingly, leather is a common material for these belts due to comfort and aesthetics. Unfortunately, there are many gun enthusiasts who may not fully appreciate the type of care that these belts will require. You may be able to better care for this accessory after you consider the following few tips. Keep The Leather Conditioned Over the course of time, the natural oils in your leather gun belt will likely start to dry out. This can cause the leather to become excessively dry, which can lead to cracks forming. It can also make the belt less comfortable by taking the belt stiff and rigid. To help to minimize this risk, you should apply leather conditioner to the belt once every few months. However, if you spend a lot of time outside, it may be necessary for you to apply this condition more frequently as the sun can accelerate the drying out of these oils. Monitor The Humidity When Storing The Gun Belt When you are not using your leather gun belt, it is important for you to make sure that you are storing in an area with stable humidity. If the humidity drops too low, it can cause the leather to rapidly dry out and crack. When the humidity is allowed to set too high, it can cause condensation to form on the exterior of the leather, which can lead to discolorations and rot. Fortunately, this is a fairly simple issue to control because it is possible for you to use two-way humidity control packets. These packets will absorb moisture when it gets too high, and it can release moisture when the humidity drops too low. By placing one of the packets in the immediate vicinity of your gun belt, you can help ensure that it avoid this common type of damage. Prevent Dust From Gathering On The Gun Belt Dust can be another source of damage to your stored gun belt. In addition to being able to absorb the oils from the belt, the dust can also impart a foul odor to the belt, and it can make the belt appear dirty. To avoid this problem, you should always keep the belt covered when it is being stored. However, you should never use plastic for this task as it can allow condensation to get trapped. Rather, a simple piece of cloth can prevent dust from gathering without trapping moisture. For information on how to buy competition shooting belts, click here or do an online search. ...
